Chances are just that good that, in spite of anything you do, little Oliver or Abigail won’t end up a doctor or lawyer — or, indeed, anything else you’ve ever heard of. -Virginia Heffernan

I find this astonishing. It is hard for me to believe that 65% of the jobs that our children in elementary school will be doing i havent even heard of yet. After i heard this i started to think back to if my parent were younger.....would they have ever thought that computer would take over a simple assembly line job? or would they ever think that they could simply go online and type their name to find them (facebook)? I would love to look into the future and look at some of the jobs that will be taken over by computers and the jobs that will be available due to computers....

Wesley,
ReplyDeleteI truly appreciate and admire your reaction to the Marva Collins quote. You have the correct links in your favorites, but you need to make a correction for the double journal entry. You need to read, "Education Needs a Digital Upgrade", from the syllabus, week one, and copy/paste a quote from that article, respond and cite that article. Then find a related resource to that article, such as a video, website, etc... I will allow time on Tuesday to make corrections before grading.
This quote is one that you could ponder over for hours just thinking of what types of jobs there could be in the future and to think of how it has happened in the past. Who would have thought that computer programming and even finding websites and adds them to a database for others to search could be a job that needs millions of employees. Your response is really good and the quote was one of the better ones i think, keep up the good work :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is so hard to believe how far technology has come, even in the last few years. Obviously technology is going to keep getting better, so why stick to teaching out-dated material. We need to get technology into the classroom, because there are endless opportunities given with technology.
ReplyDeleteWesley,
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to look into the future as well, it would be much easier to prepare students for future jobs!
Good job!
Not knowing what jobs our children will have in their adulthood is scary! I think it is insane that we are supposed to prepare them for jobs that we don't even know about yet. I would love to look into the future as well, just to better prepare myself.
